Artist Biography:
Hailed by the LONDON GUARDIAN as “soulful, charismatic, and technically brilliant… a star,” Dean Bowman is internationally acclaimed as an artist with “a somber baritone and a captivating falsetto… a true spectacle” (VILLAGE VOICE). He is undoubtedly a significant contributor to the New York jazz, rock, and avant-garde scenes, being a highly accomplished and accomplished vocalist, live performer, and recording artist. Dean Bowman has been described variously as a “vocal mentalist,” a “sound poet,” an “avant-garde gospel vocalist,” and a “jazz vocalist with a rocker’s soul,” for his work with Don Byron on “Do The Boomerang,” the music of Junior Walker (BLUE NOTE/EMI), and for touring the music of Ray Charles with John Scofield.

Musical Roots:
Dean Bowman gratefully acknowledges traditional African American spirituals and gospel as the “ground zero” for his creative development. He trained under his mentors John Paxton and Dr. James Mumford, and later studied with David Baker and Barry Harris.
